What brought you to write Mana?
Mana was impromptu. After going into work one day during a Twilight promotion I became just a little envious. I suddenly said after that, “watch me write a book.” Yea, just like that. I had the support of my best friend and that was all it took for me to get it going. I really sat down and gave my characters and plot some serious thought. The story eventually became so vivid that I pursued publishing just because I have the urge to have people experience it.

Why did you choose to write a Fantasy genre?
Because unless we all live an insane action packed life, reality can be pretty boring. Fantasy gives me the chance to rewrite laws, grant unlikely chances, and live through a set of pure imaginative eyes. With fantasy, the ball is on your court. Pairing it with YA gives it limitless possibilities.
How did you feel when you found that Mana was going to be published?
I was ecstatic! Finally, the long lists of rejections were over! Still, to this day I’m happy as hell. My story is going to be available to everyone and that’s overwhelming to me. It’s hard for a first time author. We wonder if people will like it or if it will catch on. I don’t worry about that. Believe in yourself and people will believe in you, too!
What would you say is the easy and hard part of writing this book?
The easy part was dialogue for me. Actually, most of my novel is dialogue driven. The tricky part was adding just a pinch of detail, while blending just a little narration. The novel as a whole took a lot out of me. I admire literature so much, so it was tough for me to write with prose like my mentors, Poe and Shakespeare. I did the best I could and I’m good with that.
Looking back, is there anything you would add/change in Mana?
No. Through editing, I found the true flowers of my book. After that became apparent to me, I was convinced my book was just right for my tastes. I’m glad Mana turned out the way it did.
Will we see any other books from you?
Of course! I’m working on the sequel now and I may have some other things planned. We’ll see how everyone likes Mana, first.
What do you prefer to do when not writing?
Model, act, and definitely video games! I try to write when I can, but I enjoy some versatility. More than writing, I want to be on the cover of GQ Magazine, it’s been a long time goal for me (don’t ask lol). I’m a social person and I’m looking for an adventure.
Is there anything else you would love to say?
Actually, yes! I always motivate others to achieve their goals by being different. Difference is beautiful and I just want to let that be known. Don’t be ashamed of your gift; let it shine. It’ll be fun to laugh in the face of those who doubted you.
