But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.
Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.
My Review: America is one of six girls left, and in this book, she faces a lot. She and Maxon are getting closer, to the point that he is ready to name her the next princess, though she still needs time. Becoming the next princess is not as easy as one may think. She and Maxon spend more time together and he even shares some cool secrets with her. Like this one secret room full of banned books and others. They look up the term Halloween, and America loves the story and idea. So Maxon decides to bring it back, and even lets America take the book to read. In the meantime her and Marlee have become great friends, always talking and having a good time. The day when Maxon mentions the party to the girls, he adds a twist. All of their families are invited! So what could be more perfect at this moment? The day America's family arrives she is so happy and so are they. Her younger sister is more excited then them all. On the day of the party everyone gets dressed up in outfits. America is a lovely butterfly, and waits forever for Maxon to come and ask for a dance. Finally he comes up to her and they dance very close and talk. He mentions that he wants her to see the princess suite and decide what she wants there. He wants her, and so does she, though what is to stop them from announcing now? Well I could say more...but I'll stop there. For this next part of the book was very emotional. Marlee and a guard are punished in front of everyone...a very hard part to read when your so into the story.
Once America has gotten over what happened, and forgiven Maxon, things get shakey. They have good moment, and some not so good moments. Maxon will do anything to make America happy, and to prove it, he brings her to the princess room. There someone is waiting to meet her. This meeting makes America happy and brings her to like Maxon once more.
Now there is one girl named Kriss who becomes good friends with America and even share some things about their time with Maxon. They way Kriss describes it makes America think that Maxon may want her more. Which makes her think about everything. Should she really be here with Maxon, or leave and go with Aspen? When she finally decides what she is going to do, she first tries to changes the castes. When that makes the King flip things go crazy. She decides then she is going to leave. Before she can, another alarm goes off and she and Maxon must hide. There they talk and learn about each other. There they fall in love together again. Although once the attack is over she still decides its safer for her to leave.
Just as she goes to leave Maxon tells her that he sent another girl home and that she is to stay. America will stay and fight for Maxon. I know that somehow America will be the next princess. Because this book was brilliant and better than the first!
