At the beginning of A Ranger’s Tale, all
Caliphany wanted in life was to break free of societal and parental
expectations. She wanted a taste of what the world had to offer. When Galadin
Trudeaux rescued her from an attempted kidnapping, she saw her chance and took
it.
While I admire Caliphany for her independent nature
and courage to follow her dreams, the consequences of her impulsive decisions
were not always good, to say the very least. So, while it’s wonderful to reach
for our dreams and try to achieve them, we need to be smart about it.
Learn from Caliphany’s mistakes and weigh the pros
and cons before embarking on a new adventure. Whether it’s going back to
college, having a baby (or another one), finding a new job, moving to a new
city, going on a mission trip, etc., consider the consequences of your actions.
Don’t simply rely on feelings and impulse. Who will be affected by your
decisions and how? Will the costs and time involved be realistic for you to
handle? What’s your fallback plan if the first one doesn’t work out?
Dreams and ambitions are wonderful things, but
planning ahead is important when undertaking any new challenge. Keep your head,
take your time, and follow those dreams. But, don’t be like Caliphany and
plunge in without knowing what’s waiting for you. Do it right!!
Author Bio
Mysti Parker (pseudonym) is a full time wife, mother
of three, and a writer. Her first novel, A Ranger's Tale was published in
January, 2011 by Melange Books, and the second in the fantasy romance series,
Serenya's Song, was published in April 2012. The highly anticipated third book,
Hearts in Exile, has already received some great reviews. The Tallenmere
series has been likened
to Terry Goodkind's 'Sword of Truth' series, but is
probably closer to a spicy cross between Tolkien and Mercedes Lackey.
Mysti's other writings have appeared in the
anthologies Hearts of Tomorrow, Christmas Lites, and Christmas Lites II. Her
flash fiction has appeared on the online magazine EveryDayFiction. She has also
served as a class mentor in Writers Village University's six week free course,
F2K.
Mysti reviews books for SQ Magazine, an online
specfic publication, and is the proud owner of Unwritten, a blog voted #3 for
eCollegeFinder's Top Writing Blogs award. She resides in Buckner, KY with her
husband and three children.
