After a car accident--an event he considers a prank gone bad--pop star, Hunter Kennedy is forced to hide out with his aunt in small-town Colorado. He’s supposed to rest, heal his scars and attend high school in disguise until the press dies down. But he only wants to get back to work.
Worse, the girl who’s been assigned to make him over into a geek is a major geek herself. Vere Roth is a chattering pixie, a blushing tornado and a complete social disaster. He’s never met a girl who’s never-been-kissed, believes in romance and thinks Hunter’s a 'nice' guy.
Funny thing is...Hunter is nice around Vere because she’s his first real friend. He also can’t seem to stop sharing his secrets or keep her out of his heart. Knowing he’d never deserve a girl as sweet as Vere, he resigns himself to the friend zone, and helps his new bestie with her own makeover.
She tortures him daily for ridiculous guy advice on how to snag her life-long crush. A guy Hunter thinks is totally wrong for Vere, and sadly, one who has taken note of Vere’s transformation.
When Vere asks her best friend for some kissing advice, Hunter can’t resist...
And that’s when things get out of control...
High School Romance, first love, sweet romance
My Review: This book is told from Hunter and Vere's prospective. I have to say the kissing scene in this book is HOT(: I also like the way the relationship with Hunter and Vere came about.
Hunter is this big time guy, who has been away "resting" from the world. Hunter has had some problems, and his mother just had him sent off. She is all he has right now and could care less in some aspects. Hunter had broken somethings and totaled his car, but considering it was all his stuff and purchased by him it would be okay to replace it. However, since it was in his mothers name it didn't matter, the judge sided with his mom. Finally ready to go, Hunter will go live with his aunt for a whole school year and will be "unmade" so he can have a normal life for a while. The day is is to be unmade, he is wearing this crazy all white outfit, and once at the airport things are even crazier. Everyone is there, his band mates, manager, and everyone else. After a quick run with the paparazzi Hunter, and everyone head into the building. Sitting around, Hunter meets this guy who is his new stand in. At first he doesn't know that and flips out thinking, that they had already replaced him. But no, the kid is just a stand in, to stay hidden and take pics with the band. The kid can't even sign. After Hunter calms down at the news, and is all changed and ready for his flight, his manager comes to him and explains things more. Also that he is trying hard to change his mother's mind and get him back.
Vere, is just an average girl in high school. Righ now she is in class filling out forms and having a good time with her friends. In the meantime her mom won't stop texting her about this secret project she wants her home for. Plus this cute guy she has a crush on has just walked into the room. She has had a crush on this guy forever, and an incident in the 7th grade really didn't make things any better. Now she hopes to avoid another incident, and crush on him in the meantime. She does have an encounter with him, when she needs her sweatshirt off. That turned out not to bad. She managed to say some things to him before the teacher interrupted.
In this part Hunter has just gotten a text with the contact email from his manager. He still wonders if the guys miss him at all and when he'll be getting out of this place. He gets up to get ready to play out in the woods. Wearing his tighty whites, that gave Vere some laughs along with how his hair now looks. Vere shouldn't be allowed to cut hair. He does enjoy that the people around him are normal, probably the most normal he's been around. Plus he is loving Vere's moms cooking. They have a normal life, when Hunter's life was just him and his mom. Things got bad when the line between manager and mom crossed. Let's see, Hunter also stars school this week, he isn't exactly thrilled about it but who is. He gets all these forms that has to be filled out, and when no one gave him any attention, he's succeeded so far in being normal. Heck at the start of the day no one wanted to be near him. He also gets a chance to read emails sent from Martin and is able to talk and learn more about whats going on.
Vere is such a sweet girl, she blushes at just about everything. Also she is such a dork, but a cute one at that. She and Dustin aka Hunter start talking about a soap he was on and she went nuts. She knew that show and everything. She sorta treats Hunter like a pet the way she acts with him at times. Soon Vere gets a text from Curtis, and goes wild about it. To make things better, a while later he asks her out to homecoming! She wanted to kiss him, but can't. What if something happens? She'd rather do things one thing at a time.
Swimming Swimming, Hunter is in the water and is watching Vere. Right now he is so fascinated by her, that she ends up grabbing him from the water, yelling about guys holding their breath. Yup, he feels uncomfortable, with her laying there looking good, and he gets yelled at. He gets yelled at so much in this book. But he just tells her its what guys do, always trying to hold their breath laughing about it. She isn't impressed but all he has to do is give her his grin. Minutes later he is saying so many things to himself about her, it's just more reason for him to be with her. Which I would like more than Vere and Curtis being a couple.
This is a long book, but is so worth the read! I love Anne's writing, its so wonderful and her stories are amazing! This has to be my favorite book by her. I love the way Hunter falls for Vere and how they turn out, its a lovely way for a couple to turn out. I want a second part to this story. The way it ends is just, leaves me wanting a second book.
