Bonnie and Clyde meets IF I STAY in this addictively heart-wrenching story of two desperate teenagers on the run from their pasts.
They’re young. They’re in love. They’re on the run.
Zoe wants to save Will as much as Will wants to save Zoe. When Will turns eighteen, they decide to run away together. But they never expected their escape to be so fraught with danger....
When the whole world is after you, sometimes it seems like you can’t run fast enough.
Nobody But Us, told in alternating perspectives from Will and Zoe, is an unflinching novel, in turns heartbreaking and hopeful, about survival, choices, and love...and how having love doesn’t always mean that you get a happy ending. Described as “beautiful, heartbreaking, and exhilarating” by Kody Keplinger, author of The DUFF, Nobody But Us will prove irresistible to fans of Nina Lacour, Jenny Han, and Sara Zarr.
My Review: Zoe and Will are now on the run. Will is living in a home and is now 18, which means he will be kicked out of state. Zoe is a bright and sweet girl, who lives with an abusive dad. Now it will all be over. Will shows up at Zoe's house and they go to leave. Before they can Zoe's dad wakes up from his drunken nap. Still drunk he tries to keep Zoe from leaving, but she escapes his grasp, only to get hit really hard in the head by the bear bottle as she nears the car. Now angry Will goes and teaches him a little lesson before the two of them jump in the car and being the long drive to Vegas. On the road they learn more about each other and love each other even more. They begin driving away, Will drives for hours before they stop for gas and stop at a dinner. They arrive at the dinner and the waitress give him a look after seeing Zoe's face. While eating, Will notices officers head into the dinner. He gets all jumpy and nervous but he knows they aren't there for them. Still he and Zoe act cool and quickly get out of there. Zoe gets a chance to learn how to drive. At first she has some trouble but then she gets some handle on it, all she needs is some practice. After driving for some time they stop and spend a night at a motel so they don't freeze in the car. By this point things are okay, a fight happens while on the road, then Will fought with a guy at the corner store in the gas station, and he yells at Zoe in a way that she flinches at his touch. Will hates this, how he just can't keep his mouth shut and stop all this anger he has. What really bothers him is that he never ever wants to scare Zoe or make her afraid of him. Things however do get better. While at the motel they have some jumping on the bed fun, Will tells Zoe things about his life, and they just have a good night. The morning after was cute, with how they acted. They continue with their journey and Will tells Zoe he is ready to visit the place he was from. When they get there they find the woman who took care of him years ago and gets to talk to her daughter Misty who also took care of him. Both women tell him things about his mother. Misty tells Will how much she wanted to keep but couldn't because she wan't blood related. She also told Will things about his mother. After chatting for a while Misty gives them her info and has them come visit her. Soon things speed up, they stop for a bite when Will notices the news on the tv. It's showing a clip from the store they were at earlier. A guy shaking a girl and another guy hitting him. He then went home, yelled at his wife and went to bed and then never woke up. Will then freaks, and quickly grabs Zoe and leaves the place, along with leaving his wallet behind. Will speeds for a while before Zoe finally gets him to stop. Then he explains what happened back there and what they are going to do for money. Soon they get a call from Lindsey, she tells them what's going on back home and how the cops have charges on will and now the FBI are involved. They know where they are headed, now Zoe and Will must figure out a new place to go. The final few chapters aren't easy. They fight a bit on the way to their new destination, but no matter what they continue to love each other more and more. What happens at the end is heart wrenching, the emotion of it all captures you in a way that just makes this book a perfect read.
