After battling the
impossible, Zélie and Amari have finally succeeded in bringing magic back to
the land of Orïsha. But the ritual was more powerful than they could’ve
imagined, reigniting the powers of not only the maji, but of nobles with magic
ancestry, too.
Now, Zélie struggles to unite the maji in an
Orïsha where the enemy is just as powerful as they are. But when the monarchy
and military unite to keep control of Orïsha, Zélie must fight to secure
Amari's right to the throne and protect the new maji from the monarchy's wrath.
With civil war looming on the horizon, Zélie
finds herself at a breaking point: she must discover a way to bring the kingdom
together or watch as Orïsha tears itself apart.
Children of Virtue and Vengeance is the stunning sequel to Tomi Adeyemi's New
York Times bestselling debut Children of Blood and Bone,
the first title in her Legacy of Orïsha trilogy.
My Review: I'm quiet torn about this book. I loved the first one and hoped the same for this one.
The start was right into it. Everyone still taking in what happened and the loss of baba. Although, a lot of it is complaining and well kinda boring of a start. Zelie is taking blame for the loss, the on goings about magic and so on. Her brother doesn't express much in the start and the princess is still trying to get ready to take back the throne.
Amari takes her place as heir and is ready to rule. Well, until some surprising faces show up that is. Her mother and brother are alive, while her brother is more neutral and on Amari's side, their mother is on a rampage. All kinds of magic is being used, people taking sides and just a lot happening in a short amount of time.
By this point, is when that love I had for
the first book comes back. The details, action, pace of the book, its all back
and I'm here for it.
Amari faces her mother and those on her side. Amari and her brother talk about Zelie being on the throne. Peace may be insight and things are quickly moving along and right up to the ending we didn't need to end on a cliff hanger. Because now I'm not patiently waiting for the next book. I love this author and her unique style of writing.
