A teen girl disappears from her small town deep in the bayou, where magic festers beneath the surface of the swamp like water rot, in this chilling debut supernatural thriller for fans of Natasha Preston, Karen McManus, and Rory Power.

La Cachette, Louisiana, is the worst place to be if you have something to hide.

This tiny town, where seventeen-year-old Grey spends her summers, is the self-proclaimed Psychic Capital of the World--and the place where Elora Pellerin, Grey's best friend, disappeared six months earlier.

Grey can't believe that Elora vanished into thin air any more than she can believe that nobody in a town full of psychics knows what happened. But as she digs into the night that Elora went missing, she begins to realize that everybody in town is hiding something - her grandmother Honey; her childhood crush Hart; and even her late mother, whose secrets continue to call to Grey from beyond the grave.

When a mysterious stranger emerges from the bayou - a stormy-eyed boy with links to Elora and the town's bloody history - Grey realizes that La Cachette's past is far more present and dangerous than she'd ever understood. Suddenly, she doesn't know who she can trust. In a town where secrets lurk just below the surface, and where a murderer is on the loose, nobody can be presumed innocent--and La Cachette's dark and shallow lies may just rip the town apart.

My Review: I loved the blurb if this book and all that was to come with it. However, it is a very very slow start. You have to hold on through the halfway point. I almost gave up on this book until that point.

Grey's best friend is missing. While everyone talks about her in the past tense, Grey still talks about her as if she is still alive somewhere.

She comes back home for the summer after spending all year with her dad out of state for school. She loves spending the summers with Honey and cant wait to move back home for good. This visit is hard knowing her best friend, her twin flame is missing.

Grey and her friends have gifts. Most do in this town. Grey didn't really notice/give into her gifts until she started to get flashes of that night Elora went missing.

Grey wants so badly to believe her friend is alive and it took her a bit to start to realize that just maybe she really is gone. As she tries to figure things out a boy shows up out of no where who knows about Grey but more importantly he knows about Elora. This boy with those blue eyes has a history with the town and is one of the summer children. But where has he been all this time? Why is he here now?

Grey and him spend time together and Grey learns about the things Elora told him and he eventually reveals who he is and why he came back.

But the ending.... You know I wasn't expecting it to end how it did. Finding out the truth behind much more than just Elora and the who was unexpected, but the reasoning is cliché. I didn't love the ending but I didn't hate it either.

Overall, I liked this book a lot once I had gotten halfway and the slow pace finally picked up. Really well done characters and story line. I would look out for more books by the author.
