StarHearts, as fans of Josephine Angelini call themselves,
will stay up all night reading Dreamless, the second book in the
bestselling Starcrossed series. The saga mixes mythology, romance, action, and
intrigue in a completely original way.
Dreamless continues the story of Helen Hamilton, a shy girl living on
Nantucket Island whose desire for an ordinary life was thwarted when she
discovered she is a Scion, a descendant of a Greek god and a mortal. Each Scion
has a power, and Helen’s is the ability to travel to Hades.
Helen is determined to use her talent to stop a
war amongst the gods and change her destiny, which is to live a life patterned
after that of the tragic Helen of Troy. But her quest may cost her Lucas
Delios, the boy she loves.
My Review: Helen has had a lot thrown at her....
Attempted kidnapping to actually being kidnaped. By her mother Daphne (aka Beth). Yup, that was not the reunion you'd expect. She's supposedly related to Lucas (calling BS on that one), continues to find out she has new powers. But heck, it's enough to keep here out of a hand to hand fight.
The dreams that Helen has been having isn't an actual dream. The places are real, she was actually there. So now that we know she can just poof herself to the underworld which is a fun talent but it also links her at the chosen person to free the furies and so much more.
As she and Lucas continue to struggle with the pull between them and the possible related thing, its been rough to read. Daphne is meh. I'm not a big fan of her, she seems to have so many motives that it's hard to tell if she cares of it's all just for something more selfish.
As Helen works to free the furies, she runs into Orion in the underworld. Another scion who has the ability to get into the underworld through portals. Plus he was sent there to help her on this journey. With some trial and error they were able to give the sisters a drink from one of the rivers and free them from all the pain they have felt and will never have to feel that again. Now there is no more blood debt, outcasts can come back home and things seem to going well.
I mean it was well until Ares who is insane decided to hurt Helen, Orion and Lucas by combining their bloodline. So now here comes the war and even more power for Helen....
Now is the time to plan and prepare, things are about to get
more intense and the action build up in this book has been amazing.
