Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to
take her chances with rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember
can't forget the sacrifice made for her by the human boy who could have killed
her—Garret Xavier Sebastian, a soldier of the dragonslaying Order of St.
George, the boy who saved her from a Talon assassin, knowing that by doing so,
he'd signed his own death warrant.
Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember
must convince Cobalt to help her break into the Order's headquarters. With
assassins after them and Ember's own brother helping Talon with the hunt, the
rogues find an unexpected ally in Garret and a new perspective on the
underground battle between Talon and St. George.
A reckoning is brewing and the secrets hidden by
both sides are shocking and deadly. Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat
to fight another day…or start an all-out war?
My Review: We jump right where we left off and it's already action packed. Ember, Riley, and Wes are about to break out a St. George soldier. Normally dragons do everything they can to avoid St. George, not go to a secure facility and break one out. Even if this soldier is cute, kind and saved their lives.
Garrett is at the final hour before he faces his fate. He didn't expect Ember to come to his rescue, let alone feel the relief of being free. He was not ready to face his fate and he will do what he can to help Ember and the dragons. Now that he knows not all dragons are what St. George has taught them. Garrett will do his own search to see what else the Order has lied about and their other secrets.
Then there's Dante. He still strong believes that Riley has just messed with Ember's head and that he can get her to come back to Talon, without trouble and do her duty to Talon. Yeah, like I said in my last review, Dante is not going to be a likeable character right now.
The ambush goes down but not with the results he had hopped for. They not only lost a dragon but Ember is a full on rouge and considered a traitor to Talon. Yet, they still want her. Why Ember so badly, compared to what they usually do to rouges?
Ember and Riley continue to do their thing and work to find and protect as many rouges as they can. Things are only just getting started and yet so much has already happened.
If you have the entire series, be prepared because its additive and you won't be able to stop until you've gone through all the books.
