The day her mother passed
away, Beulah was only given a name. That was it. No other
explanation.
Portia Van Allan was not someone Beulah could
believe her mother ever knew. Wealthy, self-absorbed and other than the
fact Portia was supplying special care for Beulah’s sister, Portia was
cruel.
The day Portia’s son returns home for the
summer, Beulah discovers that Portia isn’t in charge. This isn’t her
home at all. Her late husband left her with nothing. It
all belongs to their son who doesn’t seem to like his mother at
all.
Jasper Van Allan doesn’t know why his mother has
hired a young gorgeous blonde to take care of the house
and almost lets her go before he finds out the
truth.
Realizing there’s more
to Beulah than a stunning face, he keeps finding
reasons to be near her all the time. It’s all falling into place, it all
begins to make sense . . . until the real lies, the
dark secrets, and the skeletons come tumbling out of the Van Allan closet.
Twisted truths that will send Beulah running . . .
My Review: Beulah is a sweet girl who is working hard to make it. She lives with Portia and takes care of the house, cleans, cooks, runs errands, etc. She has long days and works hard, but's worth it on those days/times she can go see her sister in care facility.
Beulah has a sad backstory. When her mum died she was left with just a note with Portia's name. To this day she still isn't sure what their relationship was but she's just grateful she has a place to live, a job and her sister is taken care of and happy.
Everything is going as normal as can be until Portia's son comes home for the summer. He starts off as a jerk and I was not a fun of the way he confronted Beulah about her pay and basically made it so she had to go get another job on top of this one to be able toc are for her sister. She never knew the true cost of the place because Portia always covered it and now she is stressed out.
We get to
the point of the story where Jasper can't keep his feelings for
Beulah to himself anymore. He becomes sweet, kind, she can quit her second job,
has an actual room now and everything. Things seem great and dandy until Portia
gives them this major shock. What they had, can't be anymore. Beulah leaves and
things seems to start to fall into a good place after a while....
