Fire was my only companion. A burning
light in a world otherwise filled with darkness. A life of pain and abuse I
never thought I’d escape.
I’m still not convinced I have.
When friendly Santa-figure turned trucker, Al,
finds me at a rest stop and offers me a job at his idyllic farm in small-town
Nebraska, the picturesque family life is more than I could hope for.
And his youngest son, Kyle, is a dream romance
that I don’t deserve.
But no dream lasts. As a new nightmare begins,
I’m back where I started.
Captive. Abandoned. Alone. And staring into the
flames.
Except this time the embers are dying, and when
the monster in the dark enslaves my soul, no one will stoke me back to life.
My Review: I love Danielle's books and
was instantly excited to jump at the chance for this ARC.
Now this one is more on the dark side of things with topics that are tough to read about but it's just done so well and will have your emotions going until the very end.
I loved Sarah so much. She has had such a hard life so what does one do to try and escape? She runs away and end up at a farm. Shouldn't be so bad, a kind person giving her a place that is safe and possibly give her the break she needs and well there is his son Kylie as well.
So you'd think that this life of peace
will continue and that Sarah has finally escaped that horrid past and maybe
this bond with Kylie will grow into something more. Sadly, the escape from it
all just seemed to easy and then walks in another hard chapter. The older
brother...
The story goes on and it's tough to read, but especially so when you can relate to parts. Overall I really loved how the well the writing was done.
