The stunningly original, must-read fantasy of 2018 follows two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.
When assassins ambush her best friend, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing herself as one of a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light, and a queen of blood. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.
One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable—until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire's heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.
As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world—and of each other.

My Review: When I first heard about this book, I was excited to dive in and see what all the hype was about.
Rielle's part in the beginning is quick, but full of details and I was hooked right from the start. Rielle holds the power of the light and where she is viewed differently but many, her will and love for her newborn and to keep her safe shows a side of her that I hoped will last throughout the story.
Then you jumped into Eliana's world. She is strong and powerful with a good heart. While out, she had one task to do when she noticed a scene in which women were being held. She jumped into that scene to save them even when it wasn't her task and she could have just let that happen and keep walking. Right from the start you can see how amazing she is and what she is willing to do, in order to save up enough to get her and her family out of the place they are in.
Throughout the story, there were bits and pieces that I didn't love, that tore me away from the book. As I continued on and moved past those parts, the story does pull you back in and it's a good thing I push through it. It really is a great start to this epic fantasy.
