Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she'd put off marriage for as long as possible.
But a princess's life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can't escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests.
Eadlyn doesn't expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn's heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn't as impossible as she's always thought.
My Review: I finally had a chance to dive into this book and it was soooo much better than I thought it would be.
Eadlyn turned out to be such a better princess than I thought. She is beautiful, smart, caring, independent, and so so much more. I love her style, I love her mind and how she just wants to learn and be ready for when she becomes Queen. She is extra special, being first born and being Queen when the time comes. No more the boys needing to be King, just because they are a boy.
The Kingdom has its up and downs. The cates are gone, and most people were very happy with that. But there are still some issues going on in the Kingdom. Some people aren't getting anywhere because of what their statues used to be. However, the Kingdom has been really happy for the most part. But lately, things have gotten difficult. The people need a distraction.
So Eadlyn's parents brought up the idea of the selection. She doesn't have to it, but it would distract the people, make them happy long enough for Maxon to come up with a plan. Eadlyn goes along with it, but plans to do it all on her terms. So it was very rocky in the start. She doesn't want to fall in love, but them again, she's also had a hard time letting anyone in.
The selection starts and things get moving. The parade didn't go so well. The first elimination didn't go well. It took some time, but Eadlyn so found ways to make things better, give the people what they wanted and still had her way in the end.
However, the most heart wrenching part, was the ending. Maxon is in tears, Eadlyn is in tears, her brother is gone now, and America has fallen very ill. I can't even say much more without just really spoiling it. But I just love love love loved this book! Kiera is amazing, and I so can't wait to get my hands on the ext book. I need to know what happens so bad!
