My Review: Nothing is left out in this book. The author really did her research and brought a lot of history and truth into this world. It's one of the best I've read that included multiple main characters and had the details on point and didn't leave me bored out of my mind. If you've noticed, a lot of books similar to this, haven't gone so well with me.
Anywho....you have multiple characters, and it took me a few chapters to get to know each one, see who I liked and to be able to keep up with it all. Kat and Zo are two that I loved right away. Great female characters, very tough, smart, and beautiful. I liked Jacob, he's a sweet guy. Alexander, well, I didn't really like him much, it took me a bit to warm up to him, but still not my favorite. You'll read about more characters, but those are the ones I liked.
So whats happening, is that a tournament is about to being. A bunch of people from all over, great fighters, soldiers, wrestlers, even normal people. They are all preparing to fight. Some get pretty beat up and even killed right off the bat. Some last longer, and well, some just never go home. But the best ones left, get to be part of the kings guard. Is it worth it? Sorta, I don't like the idea of such a tournament, but it does fit into the time period of the book.
Overall, all the characters you read about have their own reasons for being there and what they really want to do with their lives. The time period and the details are nailed just right. Its a really great take on Alexander the Great, and I can't wait to dive into the next book!
