In the unforgiving Mesopotamian desert where Jayden’s tribe lives, betrothal celebrations abound, and tonight it is Jayden’s turn to be honored. But while this union with Horeb, the son of her tribe’s leader, will bring a life of riches and restore her family’s position within the tribe, it will come at the price of Jayden’s heart.

Then a shadowy boy from the Southern Lands appears. Handsome and mysterious, Kadesh fills Jayden’s heart with a passion she never knew possible. But with Horeb’s increasingly violent threats haunting Jayden’s every move, she knows she must find a way to escape—or die trying.

With a forbidden romance blossoming in her heart and her family’s survival on the line, Jayden must embark on a deadly journey to save the ones she loves—and find a true love for herself.

Set against the brilliant backdrop of the sprawling desert, the story of Jayden and Kadesh will leave readers absolutely breathless as they defy the odds and risk it all to be together.

My Review:  First the story seemed like it was going to be slow and boring, but I read on a few more pages and got hooked!

First off, I do NOT like Horeb, I wanted to smack him around. He is rude, so not kind, shouldn't be in the tribe, and shouldn't even be with Jayden. She is way too good for him. Then you have Jayden who is lovely and nervous about her life after tonight. Tonight is all about Jayden. She will dance, have fun, receive her jewelry and just enjoy her night.

So everything is going well. Even Jayden's sister is doing well, despite having lost the one she loved, she has done well and appears strong. Though it seems like she is hiding something, and at times seems pretty childish.

So the night is over and Jayden and her family go on to rest. The next day didn't go so well. It was moving day and they woke up late. So this means that they are going to be behind everyone else, and then Jayden's mom goes into early labor. Things start to move fast. Finding people to help out and deal with what's about to happen. Turns out her mom was expecting more than planned, and things went south in the end. One child survives and then tragedy strikes. Mom and the other child didn't make it and now things are just gloom and tough. It went from a great night of love and laughter, to mourning the next day.

You will feel and love these characters pretty easy, except for a few that you wish would get lost. The pace slowly picks back up after everything that has happened. Then the pace stays perfect and the story itself is just awesome. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.
