In 1814, three cousins—Gretchen, Emma, and Penelope—discover their family lineage of witchcraft when a binding spell is broken, allowing their individual magical powers to manifest. Now, beyond the manicured gardens and ballrooms of Regency London, an alluring underworld available only to those with power is revealed to the cousins. By claiming their power, the three cousins have accidentally opened the gates to the underworld.

Now ghouls, hellhounds—and most terrifying of all, the spirits of dark witches known as the Greymalkin Sisters—are hunting and killing young debutante witches for their powers. And, somehow, Emma is connected to the murders…because she keeps finding the bodies.

Can the cousins seal the gates before another witch is killed…or even worse, before their new gifts are stripped away?

My Review: A ball gone wrong and some unknow magic. You know, no big deal or anything. Emma is at a ball and going on about this boring life. Well it won't be so boring in a few minutes. Outside the place she notices a girl being hurt, the place is on fire and a mole has just gone through a girls chest. A MOLE! WHAT?! Emma hopes she isn't going crazy and is very confused at what Cormac is talking about. He is going on about magic and Emma is really lost about this. Cormac may know whats going on and the story about the magic and Emma's family, but Emma has been in the dark until the time she finally figures it all out.  I mean come on, how many dead bodies can you find before realising the real reason behind all this?

Emma decides to take a trip to see her mom and get some answers about things. Her mom isn't a big help and so she goes to see Cormac. Yep, he happens to know a lot and really thinks that Emma knows about what is going on, but she REALLY is clueless. So he finally tells her things. She isn't going to believe it right off the bat, but if she thinks about it, then it starts to sink in. But why is it all happening? Well it comes back to the bottle Emma had accidently broke. Lets just say it was perfume, but some magical powers have been released and the door to the under world has sorta just opened. Whoops!

As Emma learns about the stuff going on around her the the powers that she and her family has, things will not be simple anymore. Things start to speed up and I loved it. I really enjoyed this take on witches, the special birthmark that they have and it takes place in one of my favorite time periods!

Yup, I love Alyxandra's books! I also just started her Drake books and I'm enjoying them so far. I plan to get the next book in the series, which comes out soon and get my hands on her other books.
