Fifteen-year-old Jesse lives in a society where babies are born neither male nor female - gender is assigned at birth. Will the secret she closely guards be found out? Boyfriend Zeus, mother Ana's Natural Souls, and new friend Ork, leader of We Are One, pull Jesse in different directions, forcing her to make her own mind up about who she really is.

My Review: I wasn't sure what I expected from this book, but I got deep into this story a lot more than I planned on. You are born and live your life until you reach an age and then the world asks you if you want to continue being you or change your gender. Something very different for me and I loved this.

So Jesse's time is coming up and the only thing she wants is to keep her secret to herself. But right now she goes to meet her friends and there she will meet Ana who tells her all about the natural souls and how things have to be the way they are. These gender assignments are not the greatest thing in the world. What if you told someone they are a girl but are meant to be a boy or the other way around? Some people are fine with the way things are and then some aren't happy with who they came to be.

Jesse learns a lot about what goes on and about herself that all end up making her a really good character to read about.

Plus she found out talking to other girls about getting the procedure done, wasn't such a cake walk. One says one thing and one says another, but the only thing thats common is that its a big deal and it doesn't hurt.

Overall it was something different and I really enjoyed it and it seems like a book that makes sense in a lot of ways and something others should read and enjoy.
