The Boy Who Spoke to Stars is the first book in a trilogy about death, secrets and forgiveness.
When Kasper and Loki's parents vanish in a series of bizarre circumstances it is up to them to discover the truth about their disappearance. As they set off into the night, they have no way of knowing how the secrets they are about to uncover will change not only their lives, but the fate of every living thing in the universe...
This debut novel from Ben Miles is a coming of age story for Young Adults, with touches of fantasy.
Somewhere in the dark the truth is waiting. And the stars are watching.
My Review: Kasper and Loki just don't have the best luck in the world right now. First one is morning the loss of a bother and then the dad goes missing. So if things weren't tough enough already, well its going to be. They both have to run, its just the best thing for them right now and possibly the best thing they have done.
We get to learn that the starts connect with them and how strong the bond with boys is. Nightmares, missing parents, murders, a bunch of things that should not have to happen, happened and these boys are in the middle of it. I did love the way they took everything and went on, plus I found them to be more mature than I thought. Which would make sense, given the fact that they each have amazing parents who are very smart. Though Kasper could have needed more strength, the nightmares and everything had gotten to him and its a good thing Loki was there for him. Plus they meet some nice characters on the way. Though I'm not sure what to make of Tenro just yet. I did like him though, I just want to get more of him. Then we have spiritual aspects and secrets are revealed, that would take the book on a new tone and I really loved that. When a secret is revealed, it either makes the book more addicting or stays the same pace. For me, I got more interested. Who doesn't like a good secret? Or figure out something that you weren't expecting? Its little things that can just keep you going with a book and Ben did an excellent job!
I did notice some aspects where there wasn't as much detail as I would have liked, but because the story was written nicely and with a good pace, I wasn't worried about not liking this book. Each new chapter just kept me going and I never had a moment where I wanted to put the book down and come back later. I read it straight through and was truly surprised and enjoyed this book. It did bring me new ideas and aspects than what I'm used to reading and I always love reading books with new things thrown in.
The title also fits the book perfectly and I already loved stars, so a book that involved the stars was even better! I enjoyed this book and hope that the next book is out soon!
