When Lorna Thomas is found dead in her car everyone believes she killed herself. But the day after her death Lorna was set to sell a scandalous story to one of Britain’s biggest tabloid papers. For six months she had been the Deputy Prime Minister’s mistress.
Will Lorna’s secret die with her? While her family try to move on and come to terms with her death one person refuses to believe that Lorna killed herself. Her twin sister, Laurie is convinced that Lorna was murdered and she’ll stop at nothing to prove it, even if that means teaming up the very man her sister had been having an affair with.
My Review: So I liked the start of the book, it was nice and calm. Charles is a nice guy and is starting off the day just like he always does. Gets up, makes sure not to wake his wife, get dressed, shaved and whatever else he needs to do before he goes to work.
Now at work Charles has time to himself to do his work. He doesn't like being called deputy, but hey it's his job. So I noticed a lot about Charles right away. He isn't happy at his work, he can't change the look of his own office, and well his secretary is a little too perfect for my taste. So first off the office stays the same because its how its always been and well the English men can always find a new guy to replace him. He has the same routine at home and at work. His secretary prepares everything a certain way every single day and Charles just does his thing every single day. So right now things can seem pretty boring. Then BAM! One extra page on his desk will change everything, Charles notices an extra page and reads it because its probably something he should see. It just so happens to be The Shadow, which mentions the death of Lorna. A young girl who apparently killed herself. This is when something changes in Charles. Lorna just happened to intern with his secretary and he felt an attraction to her and well just hearing this news was a shock to Charles. He never expected this to happen, let alone to read about her death so soon. She is so young and never expected that she would kill herself and Charles is hurt and upset about this. He goes home and just cries it out. So right now I'm glad that things are picking up and hope this story continues to pick up and bring me a great read.
So jump ahead a bit and you would have read about Laurie who is Lorna's twin sister. Well you see Laurie has showed up to be an intern just like her sister was interning. Well you see Laurie may have something else in mind besides the duties she has to take on being an intern. You see here, Laurie isn't the only one who doesn't think Lorna killed herself and she believes she knows just who is at fault here. The Prime Minister himself has done it! Or has he?! Laurie sure thinks he did it, but come one, could there have been another guy or something else? The way the story goes on you will come up with all sorts of things about what could really have happened. Maybe it was Charles or someone close to him or even maybe a complete stranger! You are going to rack your mind until you finally figure it out.
Besides that, you are going to deal with the people in the story and their are some that just drove me crazy. You have the grieving parents, fey the secretary that is to perfect, Charles wife who is just clingy and their marriage sounds like it shouldn't have happened.
Overall this was on read that made my brain do overtime and I loved it all! Carys is such a brilliant writer and I hope to read more of her work!
