In Sloane’s world, true feelings are forbidden, teen suicide is an epidemic, and the only solution is The Program.
Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone. With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.
Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in. And The Program is coming for them.
My Review: Ughhhh this book is sooo UGH!!!! This book was great, amazing, super, and just plain perfection! I was happy and angry at this book so much that it dragged me and I couldn't stop until the last page! Ahh I love Suzanne, every book she writes is so damn addicting.
Any who lets get to the book. Sloane is this girl who goes through so much in part one that you just fall for and keep wishing the best for her. Though I got to say, that is one name I haven't seen for a girl before. Sloane is dating James, who was like her brother's other half. Her brother Brady killed himself right in front of them. Her good friend Lacey was taken to the program. Her other good friend Miller was Lacey's boyfriend, and eventually he dies as well.
Now it is just Sloane and James together and they must fight hard to keep themselves together, or risk being taken to the program. About this program, it is said to help those who have this suicide disease. Unless your 18, the program will take you no matter what. They let adults decide what to do with their lives.
The people of this program take you and erase who you are and your sent back out like empty shells. You'll get more details when you read the book.
Now as I read this book it made me think. If this were to ever happen in this world, I wouldn't wanna be anywhere where the program existed. It's not an ideal thing program.
Okay another thing about this book is that it is done in parts. Now in part two the intensity level hits a high. Sloane and James are in the program, and hopefully she can get to him before things go bad. However Sloane is found to be in a different facility. She must fight to keep them from taking everything from her, and hoping James and her can be together again
Things don't always go as we plan. Sloane has a hard time and is forced to take her meds many times, then there is the one guy who is trying hard to be her friend This friend has other things on his mind. Eventually she does finish and is released from the program and sent back out into the real world. Should I say more? Well I could but then the whole book would be given away.
