All Hannah longs for is a nice and quiet vacation after her first year of teaching French at a high school. She joins her brother Ben for the summer in their mom’s log cabin in Arizona. There, she meets Josh again, Ben’s childhood friend from the Navajo reservation. The little boy from the rez has grown up fast, and Hannah can’t help but feeling more for him than just friendship.

But fate apparently has something else in store for her. And it’s not peace and quiet. Night after night, Hannah is plagued by strange nightmares about the past of Navajo Nation and terrifying shadows chasing her. They seem to come closer – and why is Josh always present in her dreams?

Sometimes, the past has a way of catching up with you.

My Review: The summer is here and that means schools out. After her first year of teaching Hannah is off to visit her brother up in Arizona. After finally finding a gas station and scaring off a guy there she heads back on the road. Hannah enjoys it up there, the cool shade of umbrellas outside restaurants, getting to explore Navajo nation, and more. She and her brother still have childhood friends there. Once there, Ben helps her to unpack and they quickly start off. They talk about going out to eat, about some friends, and about the guy Hannah saw at the gas station. They just talk like they saw each other yesterday. Shortly they are at the restaurant talking about everything once again, when Ben jumps up and leave to go get his friend down at the beach. Once Hannah spots them she is shocked. They guy Ben is talking to is the same guy from earlier. Now how could she not notice that was Josh, after all he looks alot more grown up after four years. Hannah runs off to the girls room to get herself together. Josh is 17 and she is 23. Even if he looks really good, she still needs to keep it together. Once ready she heads back to the table and they begin to talk about love. She mentions that she stopped smoking not long ago after she left Greg. Josh then asks is she is with anyone and Hannah gets a strange sensation about discussing her love life with him. Then Josh says something that just makes Hannah speechless. The tension with these two is kind of funny. Hannah just says something about the Navajo and then becomes a wallflower. Leaving Ben and Josh to talk with each other. That however didn't work so well for Hannah, she just became more and more fascinated with him. Dancing with him really didn't help. So they ended the day with Josh heading his way and Ben and Hannah went back home. They stopped at their neighbors for a quick chat, the they went back into their own house. Before they headed off to bed, Ben mentioned about Josh. Hannah just says she maybe kind of like him and then that's it. The next day Hannah wakes up to have Josh and Ben in the kitchen. Josh however seems to not own any shirts, which makes Hannah wanna stare, but she quickly runs into the shower. When she comes out the boys are on their way out, and she is on her way into the village to get things for the barbecue and she meets up with Emily, an old friend. They chat and end up mentioning Josh, which she didn't plan on. After they chatted, Hannah heads back home and shortly the boys arrive. Ben goes out for food, and leaves Hannah alone with Josh.

So I'll be jumping ahead a bit since there is alot to cover in this book. Later in the book  Hannah begins to have these dreams that become nightmares, and for some reason Josh ends up in them pretty much all the time. Plus the two of the spend more time together. Her feelings about Josh gets to a point she didn't think of. One day Josh and Ben are talking about their camping trip through the reservation. Hannah wanted more time with Josh, after figuring out what her name meant and now everything was looking better for her, however Josh says he has to go home. Once hes gone Hannah thinks if it had something to do with the coyote at the bridge. She then goes home and takes a sleeping pill, maybe it'll help with her dreams, because she has had enough of the story line at the bridge. With the pill being no effect, she heads into the kitchen where Ben is heading off for camping equipment with Josh. Meanwhile Hannah gets ready to spend the day with Emily. Once she meets up with Emily, she notices that Nick hasn't arrived yet. So she and Emily have time to talk, where Emily comes right out and asks her all these things about being called Sunbeam, seeing that Josh loves Hannah, and the weird things happening at rainbow bridge. Once Nick arrives and they are properly seated they begin talking some more. Hannah starts by saying they heard this coyote howl and that Josh gave her this look that he wanted to protect her. That's when he began to avoid her all afternoon. She starts to wonder if this is some supernatural  warning. All these dreams seem to be coming from the same time. The past, where Josh looks the same, about 30 years old. Emily then promises to spend a few night with her and figure out what this all means....So maybe I shall stop there. This book overall was awesome. I love these styles of books and can't seem to find much that make me want to actually finish the book. But this one did and I can't wait for more.
