From student to author
As I graduated high school, only one thought raced through
my head. FREEDOM!
That word meant everything to me, and nothing else. I went to Germany, enjoyed the ‘life’ without
a care in the world, what else was a 19 year old to do? I made some mistakes. I
came from hard times (high school drama, really), but I had time to visit some
really cool places and meet some really cool people. The whole experience
changed my mindset. Dare I say I became more…poetic? I got in touch with my
inner creator and, almost like magic, my views were changed. Then…It happened.
Twilight invaded.
The third Twilight movie took the world by storm. Of course,
my job held an impossibly huge promotion for it. Twilight Eclipse was
everywhere. Jacob was to my right, Cullen was to my left, and Bella’s dead face
stared at me until my shift was over. This went on for a week or so, then an
absurd idea entered my mind. “I’ gonna write an amazing book that’s not about
vamps.” Yea, I’m pretty sure I said it like that.
The same day, I got both the support of my best friend and a
laptop to record my thoughts. Mana just formed as an idea. I wrote every day in
between 15 minute breaks. My boss would check on the story, my friends wanted
updates, and people were actually talking about it. Mana became more than just
a Twilight rival. It became a unique story with realistic characters with a
vivid setting. The dialogue even surprised me. I had never tied so many emotions into a piece
of work. Writing and reading this book made me laugh, cry, and despise…I had
really produced a work of art.
Two long years later, after countless rejections in literary
limbo, Mana caught someone’s eye. Then, I was finally able to call myself an author.
I’ve never felt more accomplished in my life. What started as a Twilight rival
story was now a gem I was able to hold in my hands. I had everyone’s support. I
mean…my brother did design my book cover and trailer after all. Mana is growing
and, despite the troubles I face, I am determined to start a revolution with
it. I have learned to never give up. The easy way out isn’t the only way, let
your talent shine! Mana is a story that will touch you. So if you get the
chance, read it and let me know what you think!
