Country girl Cal has been kept a secret her entire life, raised in isolation by two very troubled people. Despite her parent’s disturbing fits, Cal is perfectly content, living at one with the nature that surrounds her, and finding adventure inside the pages of her beloved books. When an awful tragedy tears her away from her remote cabin in the woods, nothing she’s ever read has prepared her for a world that she knows very little about.

Girls and motorcycles are what bad-boy Cal’s life is all about. Brought up in a raucous party house by his biker brother, he’s free to do as he pleases, going through the motions on his final days of high school. Aimless, Cal stopped thinking about his future a long time ago.

Attacked by a gang of thugs while running an errand for his brother, Cal is in serious trouble until a fierce girl appears out of nowhere to intervene. She chases off three grown men, sparing Cal a brutal beating before disappearing into the night like a spirit. He can’t stop thinking about his mysterious rescuer, and when she turns out to be the weird new girl at school who goes out of her way to avoid him, he can’t contain his curiosity.

He’s never met anyone like her before, and the more he learns about the unusual girl who shares his nickname, the more he wants to know. Cal can’t help falling for Cal, but can he keep her from falling victim to a dangerous enemy from her parent’s tragic past?

My Review: Cal is a smart chick.  She lives with her parents on an isolated piece of land, where her parents teach her everything they know. After all they are the smartest people around. So as Cal got older, she got a craving for books. She can't wait to read them, and reads pretty fast.  Cal's parents are scientifically minded. In one book she found out something that proved her parents are wrong.  She read
about people who were able to perceive the visible spirit of living things and can see auras, which she found out that she can do. She can see colors and has been working on how to change them and push colors out of her body. She only mastered them on animals, but found out she prefer their company more. As she got older, her parents started to notice a change in their only daughter.  She knew her parent's mood, even when they try to mask it. However she tries uses her powers to help her parents when horrific visions bother them. One morning her parent's head off to the market, and Cal wished she did something, her mother didn't look well. Meanwhile Cal heads into the forest, and as she gets home the sheriff is there. Cal's parent's have died. On the way home their motorbike swerved and hit a truck. They went instantly, but Cal thinks they must have had a vision at that time. So now she must go live with her aunt. So Cal is headed to live with her aunt, until she is 18, which the land will go to her. She gets on a bus and heads off, vowing to come back. Now during the three hour ride, Cal sees a new world. All the new cars, and bulletin boards, and new types of people. She looks around and can't understand how distant everyone is. They either have earplugs in or attached to a screen.  At the station, a car pulls up. Her aunt Angie. Cal gets in the car and well Angie isn't exactly happy or welcoming. She just goes right in talking about how they were adopted and well doesn't talk about some happy things. They get to the condo, and Cal meets Phil, Angie's boyfriend. Cal is taken to her room, which has a mattress and boxes, not quite ready for her yet. Right now Phil isn't too happy about her being there, and Angie is slowly getting used to her niece. Cal also got enrolled in school. Now about the other Cal(boy cal). Calvin has been living with his brother, Jarod, since his mother died, also in a tragic accidents. Now Jarod may mean well, but his lifestyle isn't too great. Calvin spends his nights just trying to finish his senior year and spending nights with a number of girls who mean nothing at all to him. Now on one night after doing an errand for his brother, Cal gets into some trouble which leads Cal to rescue him. So for some days he wonders who the girls is. Then one day at school he find out it was Cal, and suddenly Calvin has a change. He acts like he likes her, well at least she isn't just a random girl to him.  I have to say I love Cal and Calvin, they are now some of my favorite characters.  This book had intensity and love.  This book was my first by Derrolyn, and I'm tempted to read more, and it takes alot for a book to make me say that.
