Past, future, and love all exist in the door through time.
Modern and independent seventeen year old Morgan Westbrook thought she had seen all there was to her home town of Scarlet, Georgia, but one day while walking in the woods behind her house she discovers a mysterious door masked behind the trees. After admiring the door’s timeless beauty she walks through its entrance to venture into more woods, but what she doesn’t know is that the door is a gateway through time that takes her back to the year 1863 during the days of the Civil War in Scarlet.
Without knowing that she had traveled back in time, she stumbles upon Danny Carson, an attractive young man who is appalled to see that Morgan is wearing skimpy modern clothes instead of a nineteenth century dress. Although they find each other completely different than anyone they’ve ever known, they cannot help but feel drawn to one another. After spending time in another century, she discovers that she's time traveled back to the year 1863 and that the door took her there. For months she and Danny journey back and forth through the door to experience the joys of traveling to both of their centuries. When dilemmas of unwanted marriage, slavery, and war are thrown at them, they must face the perils that time travel has delivered them in both the future and the past.
My Review: Well when I got this request, I was excited since it was just the kind of book I like!
In the town of Scarlet people don't go into the woods. Mainly to avoid killers, and fictional things. However Danny is fearless, and is at the woods in the evening. While in the woods a storm begins, Danny's horse Nashville gets spooked and runs off, leaving Danny to go after him. Unable to find out where he went, Danny began to head home hoping Nashville will find his way back. Now jumping to the year 2013. Morgan is a young girl living with her aunt. Her aunt likes to go out and have Morgan do something, but she likes to keep to herself. Plus her friend is pulling a double shift. Morgan doesn't do very much since her parents have died. Earlier that year Morgan had gone home to find it had been broken into and the only prints and the blood belonged to her parents. After some time the police gave up looking, and called her parents dead, with tombstones at Scarlet Woods Cemetery. As the evening came, Morgan had finished her book earlier than planed. So she takes a walk into the woods where she finds this beautiful black horse, who happens to be Nashville. Morgan doesn't know how a horse could be in the woods, since there isn't any place to keep horses for miles. However Morgan sees how beautiful the horse is and once the horse likes her enough he lets her ride him. After the ride she realized that she couldn't take him home but he followed her anyway. Not being able to leave the animal alone she takes him home and keeps the horse in the shed. Morgan has to keep him a secret, since she knew her aunt and uncle wouldn't let her keep the horse. Now back in 1863. Danny is engaged to Evelyn and having an engagement party. Danny didn't want it, but Evelyn did. Danny just goes with it for her, because all he really thinks about right now is Nashville. He hopped that he would have found his way by now and Danny can't stop thinking about him and if he's okay. He goes and sits on the couch and talks to his sister Charlotte and then goes to see his fiancee. After talking with some more people he heads for the woods. On the way his pa stops and asks whats going on. His pa understands and covers for Danny while he goes to look for his horse. Morgan had just finished cleaning up after the horse and took him for a ride in the woods. They stopped to look at some things when Nashville just runs off. Morgan runs into the woods to find him and she ends up seeing the door. She finds the same door that Nashville used to get to where he is now. Morgan is confused, but also interested in the door and that is just looks nice. Next thing she knows, she hears the horse behind her and then he runs through the doorway. Not wanting to lose him, Morgan runs in after him. Now back to Danny, he is looking through the woods, when he hears the familiar sound of Nashville. Before he can whistle to him he sees that another girl is behind him trying to catch him. Right now Danny is just in awe of Morgan and the way that she is dressed. So what he does is help Morgan catch the horse. Danny finally whistle's and Nash stops, turns around and runs for Danny. After proving to Morgan that Nash is his, they go sit on a rock and talk. Now remember Danny and Morgan are from two different times. Morgan is talking about places around the woods and about phones. Danny has no idea what she is talking about, but he plays along. The when it starts to get dark, Morgan goes to walk home but, Danny stops her and walks with her. Knowing that a girl shouldn't walk home so late alone. They reach the part where Morgan's house is supposed to be but it's not there. She doesn't remember that she went through the door, making right now Danny's time period. Not know what's going on. she asks Danny if she can use his phone. He lets her go with him to his house, still unsure of what a phone is. They get to Danny's house and tend to Nashville and put him in the stables. Danny tells Morgan she should wears his sisters dress so she wouldn't get any bad looks. She agrees, even though she doesn't understand why. They go into the house, and Roy catches them. Things are said and next thing you know Morgan is shown to all the guests. So everyone goes crazy and Evelyn freaks out. Once upstairs in Charlotte's room, Morgan has to change. She does so, even though she doesn't want to. While getting ready, Danny and Evelyn come in. Danny talks to her, and then leaves Morgan and Evelyn alone. Soon they and Charlotte begin to talk and prepare Morgan for the party.
Skipping ahead a bit, Morgan and Danny both go through the door. Morgan finally finds her home and believes in time travel. However Danny doesn't believe it, so he goes back into the woods toward his house. He gets to the area but finds that his house is gone, and keeps looking. Next thing you know he runs into Wal Mart and gets hit by a car. After dealing with that, he realized that time traveling does exist and runs to find Morgan. They begin to talk, and Danny spends the night, and the following day Morgan shows him more of the future. Danny is interested in the future and all the amazing technology, and Danny can't seem to stop looking at Morgan in her style of clothes. So far everything is going great, and after getting lunch, they head back to Morgans house. They get to the garage and Aunt Allison catches them, but seeing that Morgan is with a guy she lets it slip by. After some time they both change into their 19th century clothes and head back to Danny's time. They arrive at his place having no idea what to say about their absents. Since Danny, has such and awesome friends, Thomas covered for him, saying Danny spent the night at his because he wasn't feeling well. With that everyone believed them and things are just fine, except for the fact Danny has to fix things with Evelyn. So they Arrive at Evelyn's house. Evelyn then says she only was nice to Morgan because of the party, now she wants her out of the house with nothing to do with her. Morgan couldn't care less about her and goes to leave, but Roy shows up. So Roy grabs Morgan and they talk and take a while trough the cotton fields. Then later Danny and Morgan are riding Nashville through the woods. Back at the door, Morgan heads through it and goes home for the night. Before she goes through she and Danny make plans to see each other again. They both do this for a bit and what unfolds in the last half of the book is just short of amazing. This is probably my favorite review request yet.
